Guan Huat Seng Holdings Berhad (“GHS Holdings”) is a Malaysian-grown food products distributor and retailer with deep roots in Melaka’s trading heritage.

What began in the 1930s as a family business retailing marine products under the Guan Huat Seng (源发成) brand has evolved into a diversified company with distribution, retail, and manufacturing capabilities.

Formally incorporated as GHS Heng Kee (Heng Kee) Sdn Bhd in 1979, the Group has expanded over four decades into a trusted name in Malaysia’s food industry — built on trust, quality and innovation.

From a small shopfront in Melaka to a nationwide network, GHS Holdings’ story is defined by steady expansion and disciplined management.

Humble Beginnings
1930s

The Guan Huat Seng name emerges in Melaka, retailing marine products and subsequently expanded to trading dried seafood, canned food products and sundry goods.

A Family Business Formalised
1979

Incorporation of GHS Heng Kee and commenced our business in the retail and distribution of dried and frozen seafoods and other food products, established our first retail outlet.

Diversifying into Manufacturing
2002

Expanded our operations to form GHS Heng Kee Enterprise, a partnership focused on the manufacturing of food products.

Expanding Beyond Borders
2004

Obtained our first export sales for our in-house manufactured flavouring products from a customer who is a reseller in Hong Kong. Since then, we have expanded our export sales to other countries including Korea, Singapore, Australia, UK, USA, the Philippines and more.

First Manufacturing Facility Purchase
2006

Through GHS Heng Kee Enterprise, we acquired a 1 ½-storey semidetached factory building in Taman Teknologi Cheng, Melaka.

Building Our Own Fleet
2007

Established our in-house transportation fleet by acquiring a van to facilitate the distribution of our products to our customers.

Entry into Hypermarkets
2009

Obtained our first sales from a hypermarket, namely Aeon (formerly known as Jusco) for the distribution of our brands of products.

Expanding Manufacturing Capacity
2010

Acquired a 1 ½-storey semi-detached factory building located next to our manufacturing facility in Taman Teknologi Cheng, Melaka.

Achieving HACCP Certification
2011

Obtained our first Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certificate for our manufacturing operations.

Halal Certification by JAKIM
2013

Obtained first Halal certification for our manufactured food products.

Scaling Up Production
2015

Establishment of GHS Food Industries to scale production.

Commitment to Food Safety
2017

Obtained our Food Safety is the Responsibility of the Industry (MeSTI) certification from the MOH.

A New Headquarters
2019

Opening of Bangunan GHS, a purpose-built headquarters combining office, storage space, retail outlet, and distribution centre, with a built-up area of approximately 62,334 sq. ft.

Digital Market Expansion
2020

Commenced the sales of our products through third-party e-commerce platforms, starting from Shopee, followed by Lazada and GrabMart.

Honoured for Heritage
2024

Recognised as a Melaka Time-Honoured Brand by Persatuan Usahawan Maju Malaysia (Malaysia Entrepreneur’s Development Association - Melaka State Liaison), reflecting more than nine decades of presence and contribution to Malaysia’s food sector.

Recognised by the International Taste Institute
2025

Awarded Superior Taste Award for Crispy Prawn Chilli by International Taste Institute.
